Culinary notes:

Made across Morocco a Tagine refers to both the conical-shaped dish and the food inside which is usually a blend of delicious sweet and savoury flavours. This type of slow-cooked stew requires very little work from the cook – the spice blend and the pot does it all! You can make a tagine even if you don’t have the conical dish – just use a deep frying pan with a lid or a flameproof casserole dish.  You can dive deeper into this cuisine and its rich history on our Morocco page.

FAQ’s
Is Moroccan Tagine spicy?
Our Moroccan Tagine is mild in heat. You can ramp up the heat by adding extra chilli or cayenne or tone it down by offsetting with some fresh lemon or serving with some plain yoghurt. 

Can I make this dish without a Tagine?
Although traditionally made in the clay cooking pot a tagine, you can easily make tagine dishes in a dutch oven or heavy-based pot on the stovetop or in the oven. If you have, you could also use pressure or slow-cooker to achieve the rich flavours and sumptuous consistency of a classic tagine. 

What can I serve with a Tagine?
For a great side dish, check out our Couscous Salad recipe at the bottom of each Moroccan Tagine recipe page. Alternatively, pair with some mashed potatoes, flatbread or a fresh salad of cucumber and mint.

What do you mean by 8 serves?
Our recipes are designed for 4 people and can be doubled/frozen if required.
As you only use half the packet for an average household of 4 you can store it in your pantry easily with our handy resealable pouch and make it again or choose a different version next time. Homemade meals need never be boring!
